Why would you want our Audio Transfer service?
Not everyone is aware of the family history they have concealed in boxes of videotape, cine film and audio tapes. These are often tucked away in a dusty corner of a loft, garage or rarely-visited cupboard. Never to be seen nor heard. The technology used to play them has long since been discarded. And even if the equipment is there it can be a struggle to get them to work properly. Here’s just one customer story.
Customer Story – Cine Film, Audio Cassettes and Reel-to-Reel Audio Tapes
This customer was not unlike of many of those who choose Tapes2USB for their Audio Transfer requirements. I’m sure they’ll be the first to admit that they didn’t really know what their cardboard box contained. They certainly know what the cine films and audio tapes had stored on them. It turned out to be an amazing and detailed journey into their family history.
The Task
In total, we converted nearly 10,000 feet of Standard 8 and Super8 Cine film dating back to the mid-1950s. Most of this footage had never been seen by the customer. However, an even more amazing amount of detail and family history came from the audio transfer part of this assignment. Throughout the 50s and 60s, distant family members had gathered round an reel-to-reel recorder and recorded messages to each other. This used to be common practice and acted like an audio postcard. There were also a number of audio cassettes from the latter part of the 1980s. These held interviews with more elderly relatives who gave detailed accounts of their lives. These memories dated back to the early 1900s.
A new perspective on Family History
There was no attempt to synchronize the cine and audio tape recordings as they were never meant to be! However, the two put together gave our customer an enhanced sense of family history and belonging. It also enabled them to continue the story by sharing these memories with the younger members of their family. These were then shared with the extended families who were featured on the cine films and audio recordings.

We’re constantly acquiring playback devices, restoring them back to service and maintaining them. We are also continually assessing our processes in converting older analogue formats to a current digital format. We keep ahead of new playback and storage technology to ensure we are supplying the perfect solution for our customers.
